The Advanced Commercial, Educational and Residential (ACER) rails are designed for use when codes require a heavy duty rail system with the optional 4" picket guards. The ACER rails are available in 4', 6', and 8' lengths for the ramp sections, and 48" and 60" lengths for platforms. These rails attach to the ramp system with a newly designed post for a sturdy yet easy to install rail. This new design allows for the optional 4" guard system to be attached during the initial installation, or added at a later time.

  1. Check with local codes for any restrictions on the installation of a ramping system.

  2. Check the total rise of the porch or steps on the evaluation site.

  3. To meet A.D.A. codes you must have 1 foot of ramp run for every 1 inch of rise.
    (There are exceptions to this rule only if there are space restrictions).

  4. To meet most codes, a level area must be located at the top and the bottom of a ramp. If a porch is not present at the top, a platform should be placed over the steps in front of the door.

  5. No run of over 30 feet is allowed without an intermediate resting platform. This platform may be a straight or turn platform.

  6. Any platform that changes direction must be at least 60" x 60".

  7. Handrails are required for any rise over 6 inches.

  8. Handrails are required on both sides of the ramp.

  9. Handrails are strongly recommended on any ramp.

    AlumiRamp Inc. along with most regulatory agencies recommend that 1 foot of run per 1 inch of rise in height (12:1 ratio). EXAMPLE: If a porch and steps have a total rise of 24", then a ramp with a 24 foot run would be required. this does not include any platforms that may be required for the ramp system.
