IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE (EMI)

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) refers to the effects that outside sources of electromagnetic energy (radio and television broadcasts, CB radios, garage door openers, cellular telephones, etc.) might have on the control systems of your scooter.  The interference from these sources could cause the scooter to release its brakes, move by itself, or move in an unintended direction.  EMI could also result in permanent damage to the control system.

The sources of electromagnetic energy can be broadly classified into three types:
1.  Hand-held short-range portable transceivers.  These are trasmitter-receivers with the antenna mounted directly on the unit.  Examples include: citizen            band (CB) radios; "walkie talkies", security, fire, and police transceivers; cellular telephones and similar devices that trasmit signals even when not in use.
2.  Medium range mobile transceivers.  These usually have the antenna mounted outside of a vehicle or building.  Examples include:  police, fire, ambulance,        and taxi transceivers.
3.  Long range transmitters nd receivers.  These usually have the antenna mounted on a tower.  Examples include: commercial radio and television                      broadcasts and amateur (HAM) radios.
Note:  Other types of hand-held devices like cordless phones, lap top computers, AM/FM radios, and small appliances like hair dryers or electric shavers            may also generate electromagnetic energy, but it is such a small amount that, as far as we know, no EMI  problems should occur with these devices.             Your scooter has been tesed and found to meet the minimum required immunity level (20 v/m) for electromagnetic interference.

Warning!

Even with an immunity level of 20 volt/meters, certain precautions must be followed to ensure that your scooter will not be affected by outside electromagnetic sources.

1.  Do not operate hand-held transceivers such as citizen band (CB) radios or turn on powered communication devices such as cellular phones while your          scooter is turned on.
2. Be aware of nearby transmitters, such as radio or television stations, and avoid coming close to them.
3. If an unintended movement should occur while operating your scooter, turn it "OFF" as soon as it is safe.
4. Be aware that if you do operate any electrically powered accessories (raidos, cellular phones, computers, or other devices, etc.) that your scooter may         become more susceptible to interference from outside electromagnetic sources.
5. Report all incidents of unintended movement or unexpected brake releases to Electric Mobility's customer service center immediately.

Getting to know your Rascal-252LE-260LE-265LE-302LE-309LE-329LE Scooter

In this section, we will acquaint you with the many features of your scooter and how they work.  Upon receipt of your scooter, inspect for any damage. Your scooter consists of a Frame Assembly, Drivetrain Assembly, Seat Assembly, Tiller Assembly, Battery Charger and Batteries, and Owner's Manual. Contact your sales agent if any questions arise.

Charging Your Batteries

Your scooter is equipped with maintenance free, sealed lead acid batteries.  These batteries require no maintenance other than to ensure that they are properly charged.  If other batteries are used, check with your battery supplier for proper battery care and maintenance instructions.
Your scooter comes supplied with two battery cables.  Attach the red wire of the first cable to the (+) terminal of the first battery.  Attach the black wire of the first cable to the (-) terminal of the first battery.  Repeat this procedure for the second battery.

Note:  Because your batteries may only have a partical charge when you first receive your scooter, you may not experience full riding time until you have fully charged them.  Your scooter  is equipped with an on-board battery charger.  Charging your batteries as specified below will ensure maximum life, power, and range.

Warning!
Use of a non-grounded receptable could resut in an electric shock.

1.  Park the scooter near a 3 prong grounded electrical receptable.
2.  Turn the scooter power (key) off while charging the batteries.
3.  Remove the trunk lid.  Take the power cord plug from the pouch in the trunk area and plug it into the 3 prong grounded electrical receptacle.
4.  Check the charger indicator lights (located on the left side undesr the trunk lid).  You will find two lights; one will be red (indicating the charger is working      properly) and one that is white (indicating that the batteries need to be charged).  When the white ight turns to a gree light (indicating that the batteries are      fully charged the batteries after daily use, regardless  of the battery depletion level.  We do not recommend that you leave your scooter continously               charging because there is no added benefit after the batteries have reached their full charge.

Note:  There is a fuse located on the charger box.  The control box is located under the trunk lid.

Controls for the Rascal-252LE-260LE-265LE-302LE-309LE-329LE Scooter

                                                                                      Warning!
Only drive within your control limitations.  Loss of control of your scooter could result in serious injury to yourself or others.  if your speed becomes difficult to control, release the speed engage lever and your scooter will come to a complete stop.  Only use the on/off switch to stop your scooter in an emergency.

1.  Speed Control - Speed Dial regulates the speed of the scooter.  Start at the slowest speed until you feel confident with controlling your scooter safely.          Turn the speed dial to the left to decrease the speed.  Turn the speed dial to the right to increase the speed.  Do not accelerate beyond your ability to            control the scooter.

2.  Forward/Reverse - To move forward, squeeze the right side of the speed engage lever towards handle grip.  To move in reverse, squeeze the left side        of the speed engage lever towards the handle grip.

3.  Battery Level Indicator - Indicates the charge level of your batteries.  If the needle goes into the red area, the batteries need to be charged as soon as      possible.  If the needle is all the way to the right side of the green area, the batteries are fully charged.  As the needle moves to the red area it indicates the     depletion level.

4.  Horn - The horn is activated by pressing the horn button on the control panel.  Releasing the horn button deactivates the horn.  The horn is useful to warn      people or animals that you are coming towards them.  You may also find it find it helpful to use it when rounding blind corners or backing up.

5.  Half Speed Switch - The half speed switch is a feature which allows the scooter to reduce whatever speed you are traveling by 50% just by the touch        of   a switch.  If your scooter is equipped with a half speed switch, turn the "Half Speed Switch "ON" to cut your speed in half.  To return to the speed          you were traveling, turn the Half Speed Switch "OFF".

6.  Light Switch - To turn the head light "ON", press down on the right side of the toggle switch.  To turn the head lights "OFF", press down on the left side      of the toggle switch.

7.  Turn signals - If your scooter is equipped with turn signals, you can activate the right turn signal by pressing down on the right side of the toggle switch.         To activate the left turn signal, press down on place toggle switch in the middle position.

8.  Four Way Flashers - If your scooter is equipped with four way flashers, you can activate them by pressing the "ON" side of the toggle switch.  To              deactivate the four way flashers, press the "OFF" side of the toggle switch.

9.  Key Switch - The key switch operates three functions:  OFF, ON and the Electric Seat Lift
     a)  OFF position (turn the key straight up and down, the scoorer will not work).
     b)  On position (turn the key to the right, scooter has power and is ready to operate).
     c)  Electric seat lift (optional) - Turning the key to the left position activates the electric seat lift and will allow you to adjust the seat up or down.  To                   move the seat up, squeeze the right side of the speed engage levr towards handle grip. To move the seat down, squeeze the right side of the speed                 engage lever towards handle grip.  To move the seat down, squeeze the left side of the speed engage lever towards the handle grip.  Adjusting the                 speed dial will determine how fast the seat will move up or down.  Do not drive with the seat raised higher  than the lowest position.

Brakes

Whenever the speed engage lever is moved out of the neutal position, the electronmagnetic brake will automatically release and your scooter will move.  When the speed engage lever is released, it will return to the neutral position and the scooter will decelerate and come to a complete stop.  The parking brake will then engage, preventing further movement of your scooter.  If your scooter ever moves in an unexpected manner, release the speed engage lever and turn off the power.  Your unit is equipped with a programmable controller that has a high peddle disable safety feature.  This will prevent unexpected acceleration of the scooter if the speed engage leveer is activated at the same time you turn the key "ON".  To reset the controller, release the the speed engage lever and turn the key "OFF" for a couple fo seconds, then turn it back "ON".

Hand Brake For Model 329LE - The 329LE model scooter is designed with an additional hand brake for emergency braking.  To engage the hand brake, just squeeze the brake lever to the handle grip and release it when you want the brake to disengage.
After you squeeze the brake lever to the handle grip and you decide you want a faster response, turn the brake drum adjusting nut located on the back of the inside left rear tire clockwise for more tension on the brake drum.  If you want a slower response, turn the brake drum adjusting nut counterclockwise for less tension on the brake drum.  Adjustments should not exceed one half turn before testing tension by actuating the brake lever.

Routine Maintenance and Imspections

NOTE:  ALWAYS HAVE YOUR SCOOTR TURNED "OFFE" PRIOR TO SERVICING OR INSPECTION.

Tires - Maintain tire pressure that is shown on the side wall of the tire, or if not shown use 45 psi.  It is recommended that you replace the tire when the tread depth is less than 1/32 of an inch.
Seat Post Lubrication - Clean and lubricate the post on the bottom of the seat and inside of the seat post to ensure smooth operation.
Electrical Connections - Check the battery terminal and all plug connectors to make sure that there is a tight connection.  If the battery terminals are corroded, disconnect the leads and clean all connections with a soft wire brush.  Reconnect the leads and apply a protective coating (like petroleum jelly) to prevent corrosion.
Hardware Inspection - Make sue that all fasteners (bolts, clips, etc.) are present and secure.  Replace any missing fasteners and tighten any that have become loose.
Cleaning - Wash your scooter using a sponge along with a solution of warm water and a mild household detergent.  Avoid getting excess water inside electrical components and bearings, as damage may occur.

Troublshooting Hints

If you are not able to get your scooter moving properly, check the following:
1.  Make sure the key is in the "ON" position.
2.  Make sure that the circuit breaker located on the control box is not "tripped".
3.  Make sure the fuse located on the charger is not "blown".
4.  Make sure that the brake release is not in the "free wheel" mode.
5.  Make sure that the batteries are fully charged.
6.  Make sure that the battery charger is not plugged into an electrical outlet.
7.  Make sure that all connections are tight.
8.  Make sure the half speed switch is in "OFF" position if you can not reach maximum speed.
9.  Your unit is equipped with a programmable controller that has a high peddle disable safety feature.  This prevents unexpected acceleration of the scooter if the speed engage lever is activated at the same time you turn the key "ON".  To reset the electrical program controller, release the speed engage lever and turn the key "OFF" for a couple of seconds and then turn it back "ON".

Note:  If you have tried all of the suggestins listed above and still are unable to get your scooter moving, call authorized service center.
