Bedsores, more properly known as pressure ulcers or decubitus
ulcers, are lesions caused by many factors such as: unrelieved pressure;
friction; humidity; shearing forces; temperature; age; continence and medication;
to any part of the body, especially portions over bony or cartilaginous areas
such as sacrum, elbows, knees, ankles etc. Although
completely treatable if found early, without medical attention, bedsores
can become life-threatening, and indeed fatal. Christopher Reeve died following
sepsis originating from a pressure related ulcer

Lateral Rotation Air Therapy
The PressureGuard Turn Select provides easily customizable
lateral
rotation 24 hours a day. By slowly, gently and quietly repositioning
the user, the Turn Select facilitates treatment of pressure ulcers while
helping to offset the hazards of immobility.
Hand-held pendant control allows convenient programming of the system`s four
operating modes. Caregivers can select a standard turning program, or create
a pattern fully customized to the patient's condition.
Select Roll Angles of 5, 15, orup to30 degrees.
Select Roll Patterns in any combination of left, center and right.
Select Dwell Times of 1, 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes in any position
or angle.
Microprocessor controlled motion system is integrated directly into mattress,
leaving no bulky pump or external air lines to contend with. Just hour after
hour of whisper-quiet, trouble free operation. Even during power loss, the
system maintains proper inflation and support until power is restored and
rotation can be resumed.
Other features include CPR mode, program lock-out, and CPR alarm. Includes
patented
Geo-Matt® anti-shearing top surface, exclusive
Heel Slope™ feature, and
Safety Edge™ stability bolster system found in all PressureGuard
models.

Air-and-Foam Renewable Support
The new PressureGuard Renew starts with the same unique combination of pressure
distributing air cylinders and patented Geo-Matt® anti-shearing topper
with which its predecessor - the PressureGuard II - set the standard for
non-powered replacement mattresses for the past decade.
The Renew takes that standard even further, strengthened by the same design
advances incorporated throughout the PressureGuard Series. Combines the benefits
of air displacement with the surface stability required for patient function
and safety.
And unlike all-foam and innerspring mattresses, fatigue won't rob it of its
support and comfort over time. Instead, the Renew maintains like-new support
throughout its life with simple, occasional
air system renewal - performed without ever removing it from the bed.

Not everyone can sleep on a twin-sized or hospital-bed-sized mattress. Some
prefer to sleep with their partner, some require a wider mattress for comfort,
and some for ease in activities of daily living. So why do other companies
offer therapeutic surfaces in single person sizes only?
To better address “real world” needs, Span-America introduces In-Home
versions of three popular PressureGuard mattress systems. Styled with a less
institutional appearance, these In-Home versions are available in king, queen,
full, full long, or dual (split) king sizes.
 Half
of the mattress is outfitted to deliver dynamic air therapy, while the remainder
provides static air support. The air therapy portion can be manufactured
into the center of the mattress for a single patient. Or, it can
 be
built into the “patient right side” of the mattress –that
is, the patient’s right hand side as referenced with the patient in
the backlying position. The In-Home PressureGuard mattress can be used on
specialty bed frames or directly on top of standard consumer box springs
