MOBILE HOME WHEELCHAIR LIFTS: WHAT A VPL DOES

A vertical platform lift (VPL)—also called a wheelchair elevator, porch lift, or vertical wheelchair lift—moves a wheelchair user and mobility device vertically between grade level and an elevated porch, deck, landing, or mobile-home entrance. For many manufactured and mobile homes, a VPL can provide a compact alternative to a very long ramp. The correct lift must be selected around the measured rise, landing geometry, wheelchair or scooter footprint, user weight, gate arrangement, electrical supply, weather exposure, and local permit/code requirements.

WHY VERTICAL PLATFORM LIFTS WORK WELL FOR MOBILE HOMES

Mobile homes often have elevated entrances with limited yard or carport space. A VPL travels primarily upward rather than consuming the long horizontal run required by a ramp. Typical residential products are designed for outdoor as well as indoor use, and manufacturers offer platform gates, landing gates, call/send controls, ramps, weather-resistant finishes, and backup-power options. Site preparation and the upper landing are just as important as the lift itself: the installer must evaluate the pad or foundation, anchoring, clearances, landing structure, gate interlocks, drainage, and safe approach paths.

STANDARD 5-FOOT RESIDENTIAL VPL — $7,995

Our advertised price for a standard residential home VPL application with travel up to approximately 5 feet is $7,995.00. Final installed cost can vary when a project requires permits, electrical work, concrete or structural work, custom gates, an enclosure, unusual platform configuration, demolition, long travel, or other site-specific work. Call 800-733-1818 for a site-specific quotation. Never order solely by stair count—measure the true vertical rise from the lower finished surface to the upper finished landing.

USED MOBILE HOME VPL LIFTS — $3,995

USED VPL VERTICAL PLATFORM WHEELCHAIR ELEVATOR PORCH LIFTS FOR MOBILE HOMES ARE 1/2 OFF THE REGULAR PRICE: $3,995.00. Availability is limited and used equipment must be matched carefully to travel height, platform size, entry/exit direction, gate arrangement, electrical requirements, and the condition of the site. Ask what is included with the used unit, what installation work is additional, and what warranty or service coverage applies to the particular lift. CALL 800-733-1818.

COMPARE MAC'S, RAM TRUS-T-LIFT, HARMAR, SAVARIA & BRUNO

Major VPL manufacturers approach residential accessibility with different drive systems and configurations. RAM's residential Trus-T-Lift is listed for up to 14 feet of travel, 750 lb capacity, up to a 42 x 60 inch platform, and indoor/outdoor use. Harmar's Highlander II family offers multiple travel heights, 750 lb capacity, several platform sizes, outdoor-ready hardware, and gate/enclosure options. Savaria offers VPL choices including the V-1504 family, with 750 lb capacity and multiple entry configurations. Bruno's residential VPL-3210B is a DC-powered vertical platform lift. Mac's Lift Gate has long offered residential porch/platform-lift solutions; exact model availability and specifications should be verified for the current project.

CAPACITY, PLATFORM SIZE & WHEELCHAIR CLEARANCE

Do not choose a lift by capacity alone. The platform must accommodate the actual wheelchair, power chair, scooter, occupant, oxygen equipment, caregiver needs where permitted, and turning/approach geometry. Many current residential VPL families use a 750 lb capacity, but platform dimensions vary. Harmar lists platform choices from 36 x 48 inches through 42 x 60 inches; RAM lists a maximum 42 x 60 inch platform; Savaria lists common V-1504 sizes including 36 x 48, 36 x 54 and 36 x 60 inches, with larger configurations available. Confirm the exact usable clear platform size and local code before purchase.

TRUS-T-LIFT SAFETY: GATES, INTERLOCKS, CONTROLS & EMERGENCY LOWERING

A properly designed VPL system is more than a moving platform. Important features can include a platform gate, upper landing gate or door, interlocks that prevent unsafe opening, an under-platform safety pan, emergency stop, constant-pressure controls, call/send stations, grab bars, key controls, overspeed protection, manual or battery-assisted lowering, and backup power. Harmar specifically lists an under-platform safety pan, emergency stop, overspeed brake, door/gate interlocks and manual lowering on the Highlander II. RAM emphasizes oversized Soft Touch controls and optional auxiliary power. Always use the safety equipment required by the manufacturer and authority having jurisdiction.

OUTDOOR INSTALLATION, TRUS-T-LIFT WEATHER & POWER

Mobile-home VPLs are frequently installed outdoors, so drainage, corrosion resistance, wind/rain exposure, electrical protection, and a stable mounting surface matter. Harmar lists powder-coated construction with stainless-steel hardware for outdoor use and 120V AC power for the Highlander II. RAM describes the Trus-T-Lift as suitable for indoor/outdoor use and engineered for demanding weather. Savaria lists indoor/outdoor applications for the V-1504. A qualified installer should verify the dedicated electrical circuit, disconnects, grounding, weather protection, pad, and any required enclosure or roof protection.

PERMITS, LANDINGS & PROFESSIONAL INSTALLATION

VPL installation is governed by manufacturer instructions plus state and local building, electrical, accessibility, elevator/lift, and permitting requirements. Requirements can differ by jurisdiction and by residential versus commercial use. The upper landing must be strong, level and guarded correctly; gates and doors may require interlocks; the lift may need a concrete pad, pit or access ramp depending on model and design. Harmar references ASME A18.1 and related certification standards, RAM references ASME A18.1/CSA standards, and Savaria notes that code limits can vary by jurisdiction. Have the site reviewed before equipment is ordered.

HOW TO BUY THE RIGHT MOBILE HOME WHEELCHAIR ELEVATOR

Start with five facts: exact vertical rise, lower and upper landing dimensions, desired entry/exit direction, combined user-and-mobility-device requirements, and whether the lift is exposed to weather. Then compare new versus used equipment, platform size, capacity, drive system, travel range, gate configuration, backup power, warranty, service access, permits, site preparation, and total installed price. For help matching a VPL to a mobile home, manufactured home, porch, deck, or raised entrance, call 800-733-1818. USED VPL VERTICAL PLATFORM WHEELCHAIR ELEVATOR PORCH LIFTS FOR MOBILE HOMES ARE 1/2 OFF THE REGULAR PRICE: $3,995.00.
